The Cask Finishes Range gains its distinctive character from maturation in two distinct cask types in succession, using the pioneering finishing process that Malt Master David C. Stewart MBE started in 1982 and that is now celebrated across the whisky world. The finishing casks selected for the range are inspired by moments of discovery. After a family visit to the Charentes region in France, WGS Brand Ambassador Lorne Cousin brought a bottle of Pineau fortified wine back to David and the team and suggested they experiment with French Oak casks. French Oak casks, more specifically those that once held Red Pineau Wine, are quite rare and therefore seldom used in Single Malt production, adding to the uniqueness of this premium expression. Pineau is akin to cognac in terms of production and flavor, creating delicious, energizing notes.
